turned off all quick notes

Category: Let's talk

Evening all,
Well after due thought and consideration, I have decided to turn off quick notes altogether, because I seem to draw a lot of folk who like to quick note, but then don't want to talk when you answer them. I don't know the reason for this, and I'm not even gonna ask why, the only reason I'm even posting this, is because I have really good enjoyable quick notes with at least 2 people, you know who you are, and since I always answer quicknotes, I just didn't want my friends to think I'd stopped talking to them, and I don't want new people or people who really have something to say think I'm rude, or a snob. It's just that it seems so pointless to me to drop whatever I'm doing, nothing important granted, but it seems pointless to be just sitting and waiting, and continually refreshing the page a dozen times, when whoever sent me the quicknote has already decided I'm not a quick fix for his or her boredom, and isn't going to answer me after I respond to their note. So that being said, if anyone wants to have a quicknote conversation with me, send me a pm, letting me know the time and day you're on here, and I will turn private quicknotes back on. Take care all, and have a happy merry christmas.

Hi Wonderwoman, don't worry about it. There's always Instant Messaging or E-Mailing if you want to have conversations, and I understand about your wanting to turn quicknotes off. Also, there's Private Messaging. Thanks for posting about it and letting us know. Take care! XOXOOXOX Caitlin

I have mass quick notes turned off. I didn't turn QNs off all together, just because I'd like to enjoy the boards, graffiti and some games without having to go through a long list of QNs. I only Private QN with those I know anyways so no need for mass QNs.

Yeah I still have all qu9icknotes on, but yeah. That might change heh. Caitlin

well, that's another good reason for having mass quicknotes turned off, because if someone is trying to have a private quicknote conversation with you, then you both have to go through a ton of public notes not even for you, and other people would have to go through my notes, and the notes of people I'm talking to to get to their notes. I got started with anagrams and hangman because when someone sent me a quicknote and didn't respond after I replied to them, I'd check and see where they were on the sight, and they'd be in a game, so I got in to them just to have something to do while waiting for a response, but found out hangman and anagrams are ok, and a time passer, and I'm halfway decent at anagrams, but I will never be in the top lead. I'm not too bad at hangman either, not good but not badeither.

not to mention if you reply to a public QN and someone private QNs you. You'll lose the Private QN. Unless you're a premum member and can check the QN logs.

yeah it might be nice to be able to review the last quicknote, but I can always ask the person to repeat. and if you forget to go to the combo box before sending your note, and by pass it, it would go public. And that combo box isn't always reliable when someone sends you a quick note. Some onesent me a quicknote once, and I just assumed the combo box would land on who sent me the note. It didn't, and yikes! I ended up answering the wrong person. That was really awkward and embarrassing. And by the way, I don't quicknote anyone first, I just answer when I receive one, but they stop talking after 30 seconds or so, and they don't even say, "I have to go now." that's why I turned them off.

The leaving only private quick notes on sounds like a good idea.

yeah you gotta pay attention to the combo box, otherwise you might get the wrong person.

Wonder I found that to be the case and some of the 2 faced behaviour on there was beyond reason.

Hehehe I always send quicknotes for the wrong people. I mean to the wrong people, so technically for the wrong people too ... oh well. I do.

I do like this feature for text chatting. The thing is it can get too slow. And not to mention you gotta refresh your page alot to get the latest QNs.

Post 13 by Caitlin (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 23-Dec-2004 16:43:28

Yeah refreshing can be harsh. Plus, if you miss a QN, as aforesaid, you can't get it back unless you're a Premium member. Caitlin

Well you'll know, it would be nice, if we had a feature where we could choose who to accept quicknotes from. I mean, you could maybe go in to the person's profile, and there would be a check box that says, allow quicknotes from that person. Goblin, I was just lucky I didn't get cursed at or anything like that. Since it was my fault, I got out of it gracefully. Ever since then, I always make sure that combo box is on that persons name, and if it isn't, I put it there, and I've never sent a note to the wrong person since.

Same Wonderwoman. I haven't gotten sworn at. Yet. Just the person says, "Oops, that quicknote got sent to me," or sometimes that person actually sends the quicknote I sent to them to the right person, if they know who it was for. And then they tell me they did that. So that's nice. Lol. ... Um ... was i going to say anything else? I don't remember. Oh yes, I was. I was going to say that the idea about accepting quicknotes from certain people is a good one. That would work. I mean, we could have a buddylist feature, which I know was accepted before. I really like this idea. Thanks! Caitlin

I wonder if there's any use in us standard members suggesting it? I would suggest it on zone news and suggestions, but everything is being made premium, and we just can't afford it, especially right now.

Wonder I had people playing so many games I could have been forgiven for thinking I'd wandered in to a site for pre school children

I doubt many preschoolers are on the Net. Hehehe. Caitlin

I think you're right Caitlin, nowadays, jaws has gotten so complicated with all the new features added, that I'm not sure a preschooler could do it, but then I may be overestimating the child mind, and they might would be the best at learning it.

Goblin, the only really irritating quick note was from someone who sent me a message just to tell me I was the weakest link. I went in his profile and found out he is 11 years old. I immediately went in my account settings and wrote his name in the ignore user edit box, so couldn't hear from him again.

Hi Wonderwoman, Heheheh well, I know of some youngsters who are quite skilled on the net, but I would be really amazed if a preschooler could do it! I bet some can though. Lol. And yes, annoying quicknotes are ... annoying! What can I say? Take care, all. Caitlin
